Older neighborhoods near downtown and the bluffs hold large wood houses with porches, gables and many coats of old paint. Prep often takes longer than painting.
Post-war ranches and split-levels fill much of the city and East Peoria. Those jobs are usually about faded siding, trim and soffits rather than heavy scraping.
With about two-thirds of homes built before 1980, lead paint is likely in older layers. Paid work that disturbs paint in pre-1978 homes must follow EPA lead-safe rules.
Houses on the bluffs can sit on steep lots, so painters may need longer ladders or staging on the downhill side.
